Welcome to Team Pillai's VIRTUAL Red Shoe Run Fundraising Page!  This is now my third year as a Board Member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington D.C. (RMHCDC), AND my second chair serving as Chair of our annual fundraising event, The Red Shoe 5K.  In the midst of a very turbulent year with the ongoing Covid crisis, this year marks several important milestones for our organization.  This is the 10 Year Anniversary of the Red Shoe Run AND the 40th Anniversary of RMHCDC which opened the first house in 1980.  On top of that, both houses in DC and Fairfax are undergoing renovations to add much-needed additional rooms to ease the waiting list of families in need.  While the Covid crisis has severely impacted our fundraising opportunites this year, we are hopeful our Virtual Event will help bridge that gap to ensure we can continue to serve our mission. Your support helps make that happen!  I continue to love the simplicity of this organization: to ease the hardship of childhood illness on a family through the Houses and the various initiatives that RMHCDC supports around childhood wellness.  If this is a cause near and dear to you as well, I would welcome your support with a donation to my Fundraising Page.  

VIRTUAL 5K:

We would love to have our friends and family from near and far join our Virtual Team.  The beauty of a Virtual 5K is you can participate from anywhere, anytime, and any way you like. You can walk, hike, run, bike, swim, or anything else you can think of!  Our Virtual Event will be held from October 4th - October 11th, so you can complete your 5K anytime in that period.  You can also choose to spread out the 5K over several days.  The link to register for the 5K is below.  Registration is $35/adult; 25/students.  Upon registration, you will receive a Virtual Goody Bag and T-shirt in the mail with items to get you ready for the Virtual Event.  Register for Virtual 5K  (Select "Team Pillai" under "Credit This Event to a Fundraiser")

Celebrating 10 years of the Red Shoe 5k

Originally called “Kaps for Kids,” more than 20 years ago this event began as a walk hosted by an alumni family. Then, 10 years ago, a running component was added and the Red Shoe 5k became our signature event. It has continued to grow ever since! While there have been different names and different locations, it always has the same goal at its heart.

While this year may look different, the purpose is the same – to give our community a way to come together (virtually), show support for, and make a positive impact on the families served by RMHCDC. Please join us for our 10th anniversary and biggest year yet!
